Idiot Stick

Idiot Stick- This is a heritage toy. Can you figure out how it works? Don't be so sure!

The idiot stick is an old fashioned ‘gotcha’ puzzle. Show your friend the stick while explaining that the tiny hook carved into one end of the stick is inserted into the hole in the other piece. Explain there is a rubber band that is looped around inside the other piece. While explaining this, hold the angled end between your finger and thumb. Turn it back and forth then pull it out alittle. By pinching your finger and thumb together and allowing the tapered pice to slide out of your fingers, it apears to snap back! This makes it appear that you have successfully hooked the ‘rubber band.'
